Summer in the City is all about building a bright future for the city of Detroit and the entire region, but we have volunteers, crew members, alumni and friends who bring SITC’s unique brand of Detroit Love to every corner of the world. Enjoy as people share pictures and stories of SITC in the world abroad.

Sammi “Don’t Call me Shana” Supowit rockin’ the SITC Green at (on?) on Table Mountain in South Africa, near Cape Town. Table Mountain is famous for, among other things, Sammi Supowit visiting in a green Summer in the City T-shirt. It is also a biodiversity hot spot - the mountain, not the shirt.

Kristen “Don’t Call me Norman” Rockwell at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Savannah, Georgia. I hope while she was there, she asked for forgiveness for procuring a contraband white SITC shirt. Those are for the children!

Ned “Don’t Call me Edwin” Baker in Briançon, France, the highest-altitude village in Europe. According to Ned, the French phrase for “Summer in the City” is “L’Été dans la Ville.” Google Translate confirms.

Illustrious CFO and inaugural Groves volunteer David Zwickl in the Golan Heights in Israel. Israel is like Hawaii, but instead of giving you a lei, they give you a beard—and take your sleeves.

Todd Baker at a pyramid in the Mayan city of Tikal, in Guatemala. That rainbow actually follows Todd wherever he goes.

Will McDowell taking a pit stop along the 405 in Ontario. Somehow, the idea that he is holding a cow in the palm of his hand is less absurd than his haircut.
-
Ned Baker sporting the ‘06 shirt at Grand Central Station in New York City. You might think this pictures lacks some of the emotion of the picture of people kissing in the middle of GCS, but Ned loves himself, so it’s actually rather romantic. Michigan Central Station in Detroit was designed by the same architecture firm.
